Some young men like to wear dress shirts with various designs, and in those cases, a boy’s solid-color tie is recommended. The color of the tie can either complement the color of the shirt or be in strict contrast, but should match at least one of the colors in the shirt. Boys ties do not always have to match the shirt, however; a solid necktie that matches the suit jacket is acceptable, provided the boy doesn’t remove his jacket during the event. In the event he plans to remove the jacket, then the tie should match the shirt.
